Heat pumps deliver cooler air than a gas furnace, so a bypass humidifier adds less moisture on a heat pump. For heat pump homes we often recommend a fan-powered or steam unit. See heat pump installation.

What Humidity Should You Set?
Around 30 to 40 percent indoors is comfortable for most homes. On the coldest days, turn it down: if you see condensation on the inside of your windows, the humidity is too high for the outdoor temperature. An automatic humidistat with an outdoor sensor adjusts this for you.
