Repair or Replace?
- ✓ Repair when the system is in good shape and the part is reasonably priced
- ✓ Consider replacing when the repair is a large share of the cost of new equipment, especially on systems over 15 years old
- ✓ Replace after a cracked heat exchanger on a furnace, or a failed compressor on an older AC
- ✓ Older AC and heat pumps that use R-22 refrigerant are expensive to recharge because R-22 is no longer produced
- ✓ If you replace, a heat pump may qualify for rebates
