Central air conditioning installation in Toronto and the GTA. A central AC cools your whole home through the ductwork your furnace already uses. It only works well when three things are right: the size, the indoor coil matched to the outdoor unit, and enough airflow through your ducts. This page explains how we get each one right.
- ✓ Cooling load calculation on every job
- ✓ Matched indoor coil for your furnace and refrigerant
- ✓ Airflow checked before and after
- ✓ Charge set on site with gauges, not guessed
- ✓ 1-year labour warranty
Central AC Work by Bison Air

⚙️ How Central Air Conditioning Works
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Outdoor unit (condenser) | Compressor and fan push heat from inside your home to the outdoors |
| Indoor coil | Sits on top of the furnace; cools and dries the air passing through it |
| Line set | Two copper pipes carrying refrigerant between the coil and outdoor unit |
| Furnace blower | Moves the cooled air through your ducts |
| Thermostat | Turns the system on and off for the whole home |
📏 Sizing: Bigger Is Not Better
An oversized AC cools the house fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out. The house feels cold and clammy, and the unit wears out from short cycling. An undersized AC runs all afternoon and still cannot keep up on the hottest days. We calculate the cooling load from your home's size, windows, insulation and orientation, then pick the unit to match.
Coil and Furnace Matching
- ✓ The indoor coil must be rated for the same refrigerant as the new outdoor unit (R-454B, R-32 or R-410A)
- ✓ The coil and outdoor unit should be an AHRI-matched pair so the rated SEER2 is real
- ✓ The coil must fit the width of your furnace and the space above it
- ✓ Your furnace blower must move enough air for the AC size; we check this before quoting
- ✓ Replacing an old furnace too? See furnace installation.
Ductwork and Airflow
Many GTA homes have ducts sized for heating only. Cooling needs more airflow, so undersized returns or crushed ducts lead to a frozen coil, noisy vents and hot upstairs bedrooms. We check static pressure and airflow, and tell you if a return or duct change is needed. See ductwork and duct design.
